The Birrificio Vecchia Orsa’s social inclusion project focuses on people with disabilities, emphasizing the dignity and autonomy of every individual. Our staff is composed of 9 people, 4 of whom have disabilities. In addition to ensuring meaningful employment, the production activity provides a learning experience and an opportunity to participate in social life both inside and outside the brewery. The production process is aimed at job inclusion, with the goal of offering high-quality work from both a technical perspective and a learning experience standpoint. By breaking down tasks, each person can perform the job best suited to their abilities, making sure the work is adapted to the individual, not the other way around. Birrificio Vecchia Orsa is managed by the social enterprise Arca di Noè.
In our Quality Policy, we declare the intentions and principles that guide our concrete actions to ensure excellence in every beer we produce. Learn More
For Birrificio Vecchia Orsa, circular economy represents a sustainable approach aimed at reducing waste and maximizing resource use.
By reusing spent grain to produce food and using solar energy, the brewery reduces its environmental impact promoting sustainability at the same time. Spent grains are a byproduct of brewing, essentially the used malt grains. With 2.000 liters of beer, Birrificio Vecchia Orsa generates about 700 kg of spent grain waste. We give a second life this material, using 10% to produce baked products (such as piadine and “tigelle”, typical of Emilia-Romagna region), while the remaining 90% is sent to local biodigesters that produce electricity from biogas.
The brewery also has a 20 KW photovoltaic system that produces 50% of the energy we use to make our beers.
Our goal in the coming years is to make our production fully energy self-sufficient.
To help you discover the world of craft beer, we created Dietro le Pinte, a guided tour with tasting to explore the brewery. Our brewers will lead you through the secrets of our facility and offer tips on how to best enjoy our products.
At the end, if you wish, we can wrap up the experience in our brewpub with a dinner featuring charcuterie boards and other specialties from the Bologna region.
We organize the Dietro le Pinte guided tour once a month. To book, write to us at info@vecchiaorsa.it or call 051981345.
